One-line positioning
HotDrama is the overseas vertical AI short-drama platform operated by Kunlun Tech (Shenzhen: 300418) through its Singapore entity SKYWORK AI PTE LTD, launched in April 2026. It belongs to the same matrix as DramaWave and FreeReels and is the only product in that matrix using a hybrid subscription-plus-advertising (IAAP) model.
Product & company
Store listings and the privacy policy identify SKYWORK AI PTE. LTD. (Singapore, registered at 2 Science Park Drive #01-08 Ascent, Singapore 118222) as HotDrama's overseas publisher and operating entity. This Singapore entity also operates Kunlun Tech's DramaWave and FreeReels: Kunlun's official site lists 'short-drama platform DramaWave' and the 'AI short-drama creation platform SkyReels' among its products, and the company's periodic reports disclose DramaWave and FreeReels as its AI short-drama front-end distribution platforms. Multiple media outlets including DataEye state that HotDrama is developed and operated by Kunlun's Singapore entity Skywork AI, the same entity behind DramaWave and FreeReels. The attribution chain is: Kunlun Tech (Shenzhen: 300418) -> SKYWORK AI PTE LTD (Singapore) -> HotDrama.
Business model & format
HotDrama offers more than 30,000 vertical shorts and anime titles (2D/3D comics), about one minute each, with multilingual subtitles (the App Store lists 23 interface languages; content spans roughly 18 languages) and 1080P playback. Its monetization is IAAP hybrid: the first episodes are free to preview, later ones are unlocked with coins or per-episode purchases, and weekly/monthly VIP subscriptions (about US$9.99-21.99 per week and US$29.99-54.99 tiers) are offered alongside in-app advertising. Unlike DramaWave's pure IAP and FreeReels' pure IAA, HotDrama is the only hybrid-monetization product in Kunlun's three-pole matrix, targeting the middle market with 'free-plus-ad acquisition and subscription-based high-value-user filtering.'
Growth & market
HotDrama launched on Google Play (April 13) and the App Store in April 2026 and began paid user acquisition on May 6. DataEye's overseas app-creative ranking shows its daily creative volume rising from zero to about 2,700 sets in mid-June before easing to about 1,600. Downloads and revenue accelerated in early June, peaking at 18,654 daily downloads on June 15 and US$18,466 daily revenue on June 16, with trailing-30-day revenue of about US$207.6K (roughly RMB 1.4M) across both stores. Google Play cumulative installs exceed 100K. User acquisition follows Kunlun's playbook of feed-based buying, and HotDrama shares the backend AI industrial-production system SkyProduction with DramaWave and FreeReels, with content cost supported by AI-driven cost reduction.
Risks & watchpoints
The entity evidence is solid and the classification is stable, so the product is suitable for public listing (catalogued under the paid bucket while actually using IAAP hybrid monetization). Areas to watch: first, store-name collisions - Google Play also hosts com.hotdrama.android (developer FreeShort, a Hong Kong entity) and com.drama.shortfilms.reels.movie (Language Alphabet Apps), both unrelated; listing and deduplication must key on package id com.hotdrama.app and seller SKYWORK AI PTE LTD. Second, an earlier hypothesis suggested HotDrama might share a group with Changdu Technology (the MoboShort group), but primary sources (store seller, privacy policy, the narku competitor daily, DataEye reports) all place it under Kunlun Tech with no link to Changdu, so that assumption does not hold. Third, if the ad share within the IAAP mix rises, its 'paid' label may weaken and the hybrid nature should be noted in display. Fourth, the direct equity link between Kunlun Tech and SKYWORK AI PTE LTD can be further confirmed via Singapore ACRA records.
